Ana Mendieta (1948-1985) included in the first generation of feminist artists, created earth-body works that were consciuosly cross-media events that are now crucial to our understanding of feminism's relationship to diverse cultures and women artists of colour. The flags in the painting are: Cuba, Mexico, USA and OIL.
